I picked up this one rule about baby fat that I absolutely love: since it takes 9 months to put the wait on, allow yourself 9 months to take it off. Until then, you're not allowed to call yourself fat.
OR... vacantly staring at the scissors beside you while considering a little bit of a "side snip" to ease the elastic band... i've totally done this to shorts.
